I’m sure all you Facebook fan have heard of the new scam populating the airways today. It actually started a few weeks ago and is still being found today.
It is an email telling you that a new password has been assigned to your Facebook account and you should open the included attachment to receive the new password.
When you open the attachment it automatically installs on your computer a program known as a password stealer which can potentially steal any password combination and any user name ever used on that particular machine.
A copy of the email scam is below:
Dear user of facebook,
Because of the measures taken to provide safety to our clients, your password has been changed.
You can find your new password in the attached document.
It is easy enough to protect yourself from this scam by simply not opening the email. We know Facebook would never send you a new password without your participation. You choose your password, not Facebook.
However, it is still a good idea to change the password you chose from time to time.
It is also a good idea to let your friends know that the threat is there and that it can be avoided.
